About
About us
West Window Lane is an independent editorial reading project focused on one narrow subject: how homes in Germany stay dry, fresh, and comfortable through the year.
The notes published here grew out of an everyday frustration: clear, calm information about airing a home, controlling humidity, and choosing ventilation is scattered across building-physics texts, manufacturer leaflets, and word of mouth. The aim is to gather the practical core of that subject in plain English, written for people living in German flats and houses.
What this is
An informational reading collection. The articles describe principles and routines that apply to typical residential settings, with references to publicly available sources so readers can go deeper.
What this is not
It is not a contractor, a shop, or an advisory body. Nothing here is tailored to a specific building, and it does not replace an inspection or design by a qualified building, heating, or ventilation professional. Where a question depends on a particular home's construction, the honest answer is to consult someone who can assess it in person.
How content is handled
Articles avoid invented figures. Where a precise number would be uncertain, the text uses neutral, descriptive language and points to public reference material instead. Images are sourced from Wikimedia Commons under their respective licences.
Editorial approach
- Neutral, descriptive tone — observations rather than promotion.
- Concrete routines and examples over vague generalities.
- Public, citable references where claims could otherwise be misread as expertise.
- A clear note on the limits of general guidance.
